FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM (FTO)

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office uses the RENO Field Training model along with a mentor program. Newly-hired personnel will be assigned a mentor who will walk them through their first few days of joining the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. 

Training (FTO) consists of a 16-week training course for new deputies. Consideration can be given to Lateral Officers for a shorter training period. The FTO group’s main focus during training is adult learning principles that promote a high-quality learning environment.
